The Perfect Green Workwear Pants | Vancouver Beauty and Style Blog

By Kelly Wilson

Scotch and Soda gifted me these pants. There was no obligation to write a blog post about them, I just simply wanted to because I really liked them.

I remember when I got my first office job that I was so excited to finally be able to wear office-chic-outfits. I can recall getting my first pay cheque and going shopping for my new work-ready wardrobe. It was exciting – though, that excitement was shortlived.

The thing I realized quickly about office-styles is that a lot of them just aren’t that comfortable. The materials were often quite rigid, the shirts would be thin and therefore I was cold (like make thicker shirts, people! Office folk are subjected to sub 0 temperatures due to the AC), and overall I just was uncomfortable.

Now, remember, this was almost 10 years ago and honestly, we have seen a shift in workwear. There are a lot more items that have a bit more stretch, and workwear, in general, has gotten a bit of a stylish (and comfortable) facelift in the last few years.

Since I don’t head into an office day to day (I work from home), when I do have to go to a meeting, I tend to feel a bit stressed about what exactly to wear. It’s been quite a while since I worked in an office, many of my old office clothes have since been donated, and I tend to live in more casual basics nowadays – which don’t always dress up for professional moments.  Wait – Are my favourite ripped black jeans appropriate for a work meeting?   The Perfect Green Workwear Pants The Perfect Green Workwear Pants

Scotch and Soda reached out to me a number of weeks ago and asked if I liked any of their online styles, and these pants immediately caught my eye. Olive green is one of my favourite colours for clothing. In fact, after recently going all Marie Kondo on my wardrobe, I realized that like 90% of it is olive green – can’t stop, won’t stop buying and wearing olive green.

Also, did I mentioned that I absolutely LOVE paper bag style pants?

Can we just get this out of the way: I’m a pear shape. No shame, no issue, but having bigger hips (and bum) and a smaller waist can make it somewhat of a challenge to find great comfortable pants – that is until I realized that paper-bag pants were the bees-knees. They are comfortable, they look professional, and I feel like they work great on all body shapes.

The Best Lip Color For Your Zodiac Sign

By Kelly Wilson

No one loves lipstick like ME. I love lipstick with a unparalleled fierceness. I dream about lipsticks. I really do, kittens.

Let me tell you why: I found my identity in lipstick. The first time I adorned my mouth with a gorgeous violet lipstick, I was just 12. My older sister was babysitting me, dressing me up in her trendy ’90s crop tops and velvet chokers and platform shoes. I was in little sister HEAVEN.

“Zara, hold on I HAVE to put this lipstick on you!” my big sister cried enthusiastically. “Sure!” I exclaimed just grateful for the attention from my super cool, stunningly beautiful older sis.

She steadied my head with her delicate black nail polished hands and whipped her MAC lipstick right out of her pink polka-dotted makeup bag.

“Hold still, Z,” she said with a focus and intensity I hadn’t seen in her before. She studied my lips expertly as she painted my 12-year-old pout. She took a step back and looked at me quizzically.

Oh no! Did it look sh*tty? I suddenly became extremely self-conscious. It’s amazing how adolescence puts you in a heightened state of uncertainty. “OH MY GOD!” she exclaimed, her face serious, her voice deadpan.

“I’m going to wash it off! I hate lipstick! I hate makeup!” I cried, suddenly fueled with an inexplicable desire to burst into tears (let’s blame the wild preteen hormones).

“Don’t you DARE,” my sister exclaimed in a voice several octaves deeper than usual. She walked over to me and fluffed my hair.

“You look STUNNING. Look!” she cried, pulling me by the shoulders and dragging me in front of the gold-gilded mirror in the living room. I took one look at my reflection and gasped.

Who was this vixen staring back at me?

I wasn’t pimply, insecure, seventh grade punk-ass little Zara anymore. I had totally transformed. I was a power babe with purple lips and burning hazel eyes ready to take over the world like a girl super hero. Suddenly I knew the possibilities were endless. I knew there were so many different ways to be a woman. I knew I could be so many different things.

I know I’m a drama queen, but I swear to the holy grail, the higher power up above and the great makeup goddesses of our time: It was one of the most empowering moments of my life.

Now I play with all kinds of lipstick and use different colors to express my vast variety of moods, thoughts and feelings. I love to have outward expression of all that’s burning inside of me. That’s what fashion and makeup is, right? A way to express all you are on the inside to the outside world, without having to explain yourself.

My first ever job was as a makeup artist at a luxury department store’s beauty counter. “What lipstick color should I be wearing?” women would incessantly ask me. I knew it was something deeper. They weren’t asking me what was flattering. They were asking me, “WHO AM I?”

I would stare into their soul and somehow come up with the perfect lipstick that embodied the core of that woman. It was a true gift I somehow possessed at 17. I became the top seller of the lipstick in the whole store, much to the dismay of 55-year-old women reeking of Chanel No.5 and who had been working there for decades.

You know what I learned? It’s really all about her zodiac sign. Our zodiac sign doesn’t define who we are, but it represents our very essence.

And while all of us girls have the absolute birthright to play and experiment with as many lipsticks as possible (just like we need play with a plethora of traits outside of our zodiac sign), we all need a signature lipstick. A lipstick that represents the core of OUR FIREY, RAW SOUL.

So here it is. Your signature lipstick based on your zodiac sign, my mystical star-loving, lipstick-wearing kittens:

Aries (March 21 – April 19): A Bold, Badass Fuchsia

You Aries were absolutely born to wear a BOLD badass lip. You might be a dangerous-but-sexy fire sign; but I’m not going to put you in a classic red, that’s too obvious for my sultry Aries.

Plus you Aries are anything but obvious, aren’t you? You like to be unexpected, a little shocking (shock me, I LOVE it) and most of all, fearless.

This is why you need a bold, badass fuchsia that’s as unapologetic and fierce as YOU. Mark your territory. Leave your fuchsia lips all over your lovers body. We all know fuchsia lipstick stains even the most well-moisturized skin. Make it so they never forget you, you sexy Aries minx.

Zara’s picks:Givenchy RougeSatin Lipstick in Ideal Fuchsia and Nars Lipstick in Funny Face

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Deep Burgundy

I’m a Taurus, so I know how the f*ck this sign operates. We are very deep, soulful entities and very, very sensual (we are one of the best sex partners in the great expanse of the zodiac, thank you very much). But though we are incessantly turned on, we aren’t overt about it. We are low-key sexy.

We also like to look rich and monied. We’re very into anything expensive, chic and timeless. We are the Herms Birkin bag of the zodiac.

Which is why a deep burgundy is our signature lip color. It’s the token vixen color, but it’s also classy and not in-your-face, like bright red is. It’s dark and stormy and stubborn and sexual and sophisticated, just like our souls.

Zara’s picks: Diva by MAC for day and Sin by MACfor night

Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Hot Pink

You’re an air sign. Your birthstone is Alexandrite, so your essence has a cool, blue undertone. You look best in PINK and BLUE lipstick.

However, I don’t think most of you are freaky enough to rock blue (but if you choose to, you know I support it).

So this is why I’m putting you in HOT PINK. Think about it:You’re one of the most alive signs in the entire zodiac. You’re teeming with a mental energy and ready to explore all sides of the underworld.

The most versatile yet wildly adventurous lip color is SHOCKING, BRIGHT, HOT PINK. Don’t freak out, I know some people stigmatize the pink lip — but come on, Gems, since when do you give a f*ck about scaring anyone off with your hot lips?

Hell no. That’s not how you roll. Plus, because you’re naturally versatile, you can rock your bright pink lippy in all kinds of ways. You can be an ironic, sexualized Barbie, or playful kitten or a disco queen of the NIGHT in your over-the-top lips.

Also, you’re one of the only zodiac signs that can really rock the glitter lip. Tap some glitter on the top for extra drama.

Zara’s picks: Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Big Bang or YSLROUGE VOLUPT in Fetish Pink or Mac Matte Lipstick in Candy Yum Yum (dab a little glitter from the local art shop on top)

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Velvety Matte Passion Red

Oh my sweet, gorgeous, sensitive, emotional Cancers. I’ve dated 3 of you and I love you all dearly. You cancers are passionate, beautiful, deeply caring lovers. Cancers are teeming with pure emotion.

What’s the most deep, emotional color in the stratosphere? Red, obviously.

Red is romance, passion, heartbreak and rage. All of which you, my gorgeous Cancers, encompass. You are as real and as alive as blood. Your lips should be the color of blood, the life force.

You don’t DO a shiny red, you do a MATTE red. Your soul is velvet, not satin.

Also a matte red doesn’t wipe off when you go and sip some wine. It stays even through steamy make-out sessions. You’re not afraid of commitment, so neither should your lips be.

Zara’s picks:MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo or Makeup ForeverRouge Artist Intense in Matte Bright Red

Leo (July 23 – August 22): Coral

Leos are the most sublimely charismatic girl creatures in the zodiac. You’re that fun, sexy, girl with the irresistible, authentic smile.

You’re sexy. You’re playful. You are gorgeous. You are one, big, giant TEASE. Your are not darkly sexy like a Taurus or a Scorpio. You are the girl that leaves everyone wanting more. You’re the girl we want to go on wild adventures with. You’re the girl we can laugh with.

Which is why you’re coral. Coral, the color of summer. Coral, the flirtatious slightly-orange-slightly-pink, hard-to-define color. Coral just looks fun and beachy. Which is cohesive to the very soul of the leo.

Zara’s picks: Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Coral Blossom and Too Faced Melted Metal in Debutante

Virgo (August 23 – September 22): Orchid

You, my Virgo dear, are one of the most giving signs in the entire Zodiac. While you’re a grounded earth sign, you’re also imaginative and extremely artistic. You Virgos run deep. You’re an emotional well. You are the great artists of the world. You feel the pain, the beauty, and the weight of the world.

Which is precisely why you need a RICH orchid color. Your stone is a Sapphire, so naturally a blueish orchid is the best option. The pink undertones in the orchid color represent your soft side, while the purple represents your undeniable mad creativity.

So, my gorgeous Virgos, get some orchid lipstick, make some awesome art and have some wild sex.

Zara’s picks: Tom Ford Violet Fatale or Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in Coven

Libra (September 23 – October 22): Soft Nude

My mother is a Libra and she’s the makeup queen of the world. I’ve never seen her in a dramatic color; instead, she always wears these super chic nude tones. And she looks amazing.

Let me explain: Libras are balanced creatures. You have a sick intuition and sky-high ambitions. You’re not one to self-gloat or self-promote (which is a breath of fresh air in this “self-promoting” culture. GAG). This is why you go for the nude lip. You let your eyes do the talking. Your lipstick is there to balance out your makeup, but you everything else shine. You will not be defined by your lipstick. Your natural beauty should never be distracted by an over-the-top lip.

Every Libra I know looks good in a nude matte. Don’t go shiny; it waters down your sophisticated, fashion-forward, aesthetic.

Zara’s picks:Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier or Bobby Brown Lip Color in Beige

Scorpios (October 23 – November 21): High-Shine, High-Intensity POWER RED

Oh, Scorpios! You guys are sex maniacs! Of course you need the most overtly sexual color in the great expanse of the Zodiac. Of course!

You need a power red. Not a matte red; that’s too old-school romance. You need a shiny, sexy, full-bodied RED. With blue undertones, because that slight hint of little pink is what makes it naughty. And you Scorpios are naughty (I’ve dated/hooked up with plenty of your kind; don’t question me on this).

And you know I love most about Scorpios? Your unabashed, unapologetic CONFIDENCE. It takes a confident girl creature to rock the shiny red. You don’t give a sh*t if it smudges a little. It looks fierce and hot, so who cares if you have to reapply? Not you, my sexy Scorpio. Not you.

Zara’s picks: Lip Fusion Plump + Shine Lipstick in Risque Red WITH Lip Fusion Shine Plumping Gloss in Sexyon top(it’s killer)

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Burnt Berry

Sagittarius are beautiful philosophers. You spend time thinking about the world at large, breaking down what it all means.

You’re also incredibly positive. You’re just beaming with this palpable, good energy. We want to be around you. Which is precisely why you need a warm, burnt berry lipstick.

Burnt berries are comforting but smart. Sexy but pretty. Positive but deep. Just like you!

Zara’s picks: Nars Lipstick Scarlett Empress and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Damned

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): BLACK

Capricorns are my favorite sign in the stratosphere. In fact, all of my best friends are Capricorns.

As I’ve said before: You’re just wonderfully reliable, hyper-ambitious, fabulously organized and good-looking creatures with a powerful sense of resilience that I deeply admire.

You’re a class act, which is why you need to rock the black lip. Girl, I know it’s bold. But it’s also the color of organization, ambition and — most importantly — resilience. Plus, who can resist a girl fearless enough to rock a black lip? No one.

Pair it with NO eye makeup and a side ponytail. Trust me. I’ve seen it blow the minds of people passing through the city streets.

Zara’s picks: MAKE UP FOREVERRouge Artist Intense Lipstick in Satin Black

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Ice Blue

Oh, my sweet, sultry air baby. We are in the AGE OF THE AQUARIUS, so we are really relying on your prowess to set the trend for the new age.

This is why I’m putting you in an icy-blue lipstick. Don’t fret; you’re a trendsetter and blue lipstick is all the rage. It’s actually extremely soft and flattering. It’s not a dark blue; it’s a snow-princess blue. Perfect for the cold, cutting months of winter.

You go and rock those blue lips — and the next thing you know, that bitchy girl who sits adjacent to you in the office will be do the same. I know you said you liked CATS, not COPYCATS, but thus is the life of the trendsetter.

Zara’s picks: Dolce and Gabbana Shine Lipstick in Light Blue and Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Jawbreaker

Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Mauve With HELLA Lip-Liner

You Pisces are super sexy with a ton of natural — dare I say — SWAGGER. You’re sexy in a effortless way. You’re not trying to hard. You’re the great eye-f*ckers of the Zodiac.

Which is why your lips must be sexy, but not too obvious. Think of the Angelina lip. Or the Kylie Jenner lip. Full and matte and heavily lined, but not BRIGHT RED. That’s not how you roll. You don’t want us to know you try so hard (even though you do, sweet Pisces).

You’re all about the mauve. Not nude. Not brown. But mauve. Something about a mauve lip with a darker liner is so seductive. It makes me think of soft, pillowy lips I’m going to get lost in forever…

Zara’s picks: Lime Crime Velvetines in Polly andKat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft, BOTH with Mac Lip Pencil in Spice

Balenciaga’s Latest Collection Is For Anyone Who Still Feels The Bern

By Kelly Wilson

Bernie Sanders ran a history-making campaign that lit a fire in the hearts of many Americans. In the months since the election, he has kept that fire berning, partially by calling out President-elect Donald Trumpon his policies, partially by refusing to stand down on Trumps picks for top White House positions and also by apparently inspiring a fashion collection.

Balenciagas Fall 2017 collection, which showed in Paris on Wednesday, included a few pieces featuring a logo instantly recognizable to anyone who followed the 2016 election that of Sanders campaign.

The logo, which was nearly identical to Bernies aside from the fact that it read Balenciaga 2017 appeared on jackets:

T-shirts:

And even a giant scarf:

Heres the Bernie logo in question, for reference:

Fashionista pointed out that Balenciaga went so far as to use the logo asnail arton its models in the show.

Considering Sanders stance on income and wealth, the sky-high cost of Balenciagas garb provides a touch of irony that is not lost on us. We have to hand it to Balenciaga though, for capitalizing on the increasingly popular usage of logos on clothing andthe Bernie Bro. phenomenon.

Both Karlie Kloss And Beyonc Use This Tip To Get The Perfect Makeup

By Kelly Wilson

Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to look like supermodel Karlie Kloss. Now raise the other hand if you’ve ever wanted to look like Beyonc.

Both hands raised? Yep, me too.

While I can’t promise you Karlie’s cheekbones or Beyonc’s curves, I can grant you their lips (kind of).

In the most recent episode of Karlie Kloss’ YouTube series, “Klossy,” makeup artist Sir John says he learned this trick for the perfect lip color from the queen of all queens, Beyonc.

He explains,

Tap color on your lips. And you’re going to take the bottom color and you’re going to slightly go over, like fish mouth.

Don’t worry, it makes more sense when you watch the tutorial. Check it out up top.

Color Therapy: How Color Affects Your Mood

By KellyWil

Posted From http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/freepeoplefeed/~3/0dN-m6KGhPE/

With the ability to evoke a serious emotional response, even if you don’t know it’s happening…

Remember that moment in “Wizard of Oz” when Dorothy wakes up after the tornado and everything is vibrant and bold and exciting (especially after 30 minutes spent in dreary, grey Kansas)? Or in “Pleasantville” when the town’s citizens start experiencing life for the first time and color seeps in? Black-and-white films of yore are romantic and mysterious, but there’s a reason movie studios eventually moved to technicolor—color is crazy-powerful, and has the ability to evoke a serious emotional response, even if you don’t know it’s happening.

Whether you’re painting the walls of your bedroom, deciding between outfits for a date, or are just generally interested in chromotherapy, you too can use the power of color to your advantage.

Woke up feeling run down? Opt for that yellow sweater hanging in the back of your closet for boost of energy and inspiration. Big presentation coming up that you’re not feeling so hot about? A pair of gold shoes will trigger self-confidence and a sense of authority. Picking out colors for your meditation room? Violet walls can be soothing for both mental and emotional stress.

To take full advantage of color in your life, read on (and dress accordingly):

Red: Red often gets an intense rap as the color of blood and fire, but when you think about it, blood is the life force, and red is to color what a Beyonce-heavy playlist is to the gym: it will give you LIFE. It’s an intense color for sure, but wielded responsibly, red can go a long way in exciting you and offering a boost of courage.

Orange: A blend of the intensity of red and the optimism of yellow, orange is the color of stimulation. It will kick your butt into gear, imparting the enthusiasm and energy you need to accomplish pretty much anything on your to-do list.

Yellow: Smiley face emojis aren’t yellow by accident—the bright, cheery color is one of happiness, laughter and optimism. Yellow can wake up your mind, inspire mental agility and clarity, all while imparting an energy you might not have had before. The color of sunshine, daffodils and very cute puppies, it’s an attention-getter and a smile-inducer.

Green: Inspiring balance and harmony, the colors of nature are naturally soothing. And all that soothing sets the stage perfectly for harmonious growth (just like plants!) and health. When you find yourself stressed or getting worked up over something, think of the strong, stable roots of a tree and the softly fluttering green leaves living in harmony with the rest of the natural world, the weather and itself.

Blue: Just like serene lakes and rolling oceans have a calming effect, so too does the blue they wear so well. Use blue to soothe your mind, body and spirit, and calm whatever fires might be brewing internally. It’s easy to turn to a fiery color in times of turmoil, but shades of blue are your best bet at remaining serene, wise, and focused on the truth and what matters.

Purple: Historically the color of royalty, purple is often associated with wealth, sophistication, wisdom and prosperity, which makes it the perfect color to rock in job interview or salary negotiation. Lighter shades like violet are colors of transformation and soothing spirituality, perfect for a quick re-connection with yourself and what’s important.

Pink: There’s a reason Valentine’s Day—the day of all things love—is awash in pink tones. Of course, it’s associated with romance and love, but pink is also believed to impart a youthful energy, and what instills a more youthful energy than falling and being in love? What’s more, pink also helps you get in touch with your true feelings aka self-love and understanding. And more vibrant shades like magenta are thought to be magnetic….so, you know, love and literal attraction.

White: A color without a hue, white is sometimes thought to be the combination of all colors everywhere. It means balance and harmony, everything coming together into one perfect hue-less “color.” In some cultures, white signifies purity and innocence, while in others, it indicates light, illumination and wisdom. Either way, it’s hard to go wrong with a white outfit as it’s the perfect blank canvas, leaving you open to any possibility. (Maybe just stay away from tomato sauce.)

Black: On the opposite end of the spectrum is black, the darkest color that results from the complete absence or absorption of light. That’s right, black exists when there is no light; it is the most extreme of extremes. And though it’s easy to associate this light-eating color with evil and death, it’s also a symbol for power, intelligence and strength (perhaps because it’s eaten up all the light and so has its power, intelligence and strength).

Grey: In a surprise to no one, grey is often associated with feelings of indifference and apathy. Not only can a cloudy, overcast grey sky trigger feelings of sadness, but throwing on a grey ensemble won’t do anything to energize or bring your mood up. If you want to wallow, by all means keep rocking that grey sweatsuit, but something more vibrant will go a long way to perk you up. That said, grey is also the color of practicality, so it’s a good option if you need to get down to business.

Brown: The color of earth, brown has a serious grounding effect. It’s the color of nature and simplicity, and invites you to reconnect to your roots to get you back on solid ground. Brown is a reliable color, one that can make you feel safe and warm. If you’re feeling lost or flighty, reach for the safety of brown.

Silver: A color linked with the divine feminine, the energy of the moon and the tides, silver is fluid, emotional and sensitive while also being calming, stabilizing and purifying. If you’re feeling reflective or in need of some deep thinking, silver will help you reflect and shine light on what to do next. (Get it? Mirrors?)

Gold: Shiny and rare, gold is the ultimate symbol of authority, confidence, passion and courage. These all may seem disjointed but think about it: gold is associated with success, a feat that requires confidence, passion and courage.

How do I cut my sleeves off? – 2016’s most-Googled fashion questions clarified

By Kelly Wilson

These are the style queries most asked of the search engine this year. But what does an algorithmic rummage of billions of web pages know that the Guardians fashion desk doesn’t?

1. How to cut sleeves off a shirt?

This year was largely focused on vandalizing your clothes: razoring your jean hems, cropping your tops and, apparently, de-sleeving your shirts. To do this one, you need scissors and good arms. Were fairly confident this question was made up.

2. How do I start modelling?

A bleak perennial on the search engines annual fashion question roundup but, anyway … To start, you need remarkable genes. If the years catwalk was anything to go by, you also needed curly hair and a decent handle on Instagram.

3. What is haute couture?

Thought 2,000 for a dress was expensive? Think again! Haute couture is like catwalk fashion except way, way more expensive, made to order as opposed to ready to wear and as close as fashion gets to art.

4. How to wear booties with skinny jeans?

In fashion parlance, with a sliver of ankle flesh showing. In normal parlance, just shove them on, mate.

5. When can you start wearing white?

Before Labor Day, but also when you don’t have or want a baby, no longer take public transport, give up coffee and are the Flotus present or elect.

6. How to become a fitness model?

Sign up to Instagram. Get a handle like StrongIsSexxxxi41. Remember that the straw of your green juice is a conduit to an alternative reality where your Lycra sports bra is never three sizes too small and that all burgers are props not sustenance.

7. What is boho?

Essentially: dressing up like Florence Welch’s cat-lady aunt after a day spent foraging for oyster mushrooms.

8. What did people wear in the 90s?

Lots of layers. So many layers that people questioned the eyesight, taste and sanity of a generation (see: the entire wardrobe of the Spice Girls).

9. How to dress like a hippy?

Repeat (7) but with less awkwardly perched hats and a more laissez-faire attitude to personal hygiene.

10. How to become a fashion designer?

The best thing a burgeoning designer can do is put down the mood board, appear on Im Dancing on Ice in the Big Brother Bake-Off and drop a sex tape. Celebrity is the new St Martins (see: the Olsen twins, Kanye West and Beyonc).
